Woodlands Ash Burl Bowl
Northeast America, ca. 1780-1820. Likely Native American. Quite remarkable in that it is hewn, not lathe-turned, in a manner to emulate a colonial bowl, with a molded rim and raised foot, and graceful side shape. Under magnification one can see the shape-forming tool marks. Never varnished. Rich color. Interior has traces of white (dairy use) and dark brown (animal fats). About 6 1/2 inches diameter x 2 1/4 tall. No cracks.
