Very Small POKADOT Paint Decorated Box with Glass Lid......SALE PENDING
Probably New England, ca. 1810-1840. Pine. Unusual, delicate little box with glassed-lid, likely to display precious belongings, perhaps jewelry or locket. Very dry original paint decorated with black dots over soft bittersweet/salmon. Interior retains bright bittersweet. Original snipe hinges and swing-latch from drawn wire. Glass is also original. Interior is divided. Bottom board is joined with tiny wooden pegs. Case is canted forward, presumably to enhance viewing of precious objects. Measures just 3 7/8 inches wide x 3 1/4 deep x 2 3/4 at the back, 2 7/16 at the front.
