Beautiful Door Latch
Made by a Skilled Blacksmith
Dated 1816

Probably New England, wrought in iron.

Being dated makes this latch a rare find. Distinctive form of extended “petals” and deep turnings on the handle. Excellent structural condition. Typical fine pitting from its period of use outdoors. Strong color. Has been linseed oiled to prevent rusting. The removable thumb piece is period yet not original to this latch. About 16 ½ inches long.

From a fine Connecticut collection for about 30 years.
