Small Queen Anne Looking Glass with Mystery Sliding Insert

Northeast, likely Connecticut, ca. 1750-1790.   Cherry, appears to be first surface, the original mirror glass enclosed within a sliding frame that is designed to pull out of either side, a feature I have not seen before nor can explain. The crest is integral with the backboard, which is wooden pegged to the front thumb-molded frame. Excellent condition save for desilvering in the upper portion as shown. Including crest about 12 3/8 inches tall x 7 7/8 wide. Sturdy and solid. Perhaps a courting mirror.  Skillfully made.
