UNIQUE TAVERN BOX ---SENSATIONAL CARVING
New England, likely Maine, signed W*G. Dated 1808. 

Remarkably all carved from the solid. Yellow birch with chip-carved ends to the rounded lid. Boldly carved with pinwheels, a heart, and WINE CARAFES, WINE GLASSES, & BEAKERS/TUMBLERS. May have been made to protect wine/liquor bottles within the tavern. High state or originality including surface. Original hinges with reinforcement from later nails.

About 24 inches long x 8 tall x 8 3/4 deep. Provenance includes Elliot and Grace Snyder; private Maine collection.

I have never seen another even remotely like it.  Special!!
