Rich Blue Paint.
Thick-Walled
Pantry Box
New England, ca. 1820-1850.
Original blue paint on sidewalls of ash or red oak, with pine top and bottom. Joinery by copper nails, suggesting use near the ocean as the copper would not “bleed” like iron nails would in the salt air.
Very thick walled (1/4+ inch). Generous size of about 13 inches diameter x 6 high.
