Fine Painted Hingham Box

Hingham, Massachusetts, ca. 2nd quarter, 19th century.
Dry original gray paint on an opposing finger box with ash side wall and pine top and bottom. Joinery by iron tacks and tiny wooden pegs. Intaglio impressed on the lid LEVI BEAL (1786-1852), one of the prominent woodenware makers of 19th century Hingham.
This is an especially pleasing example in form, surface, and condition. I like how one can see the ash pore structure through the paint, and the authentic burnishing wear from real use in period.
