Soft, Quiet Color
Folk Art Hooked Rug

American, late 19th century.
Appears to be hooked from wool. A naïvely drawn horse in lively profile is flanked by oversized flowers, with patterned borders across the top and bottom. With folk art charm, the soft palette of beige, cream, muted blue, and pale mauve creates a quiet, harmonious composition. The richly textured surface retains just the right degree of soft wear to convey age and use without diminishing the design.
Mounted and ready to hang. About 38¾ inches wide x 24½ inches high. From a private New York State collection.
