Unusual
Watch Hutch
in Tin

Probably Northeast, ca. early 19th century (possibly 18thc).

Entirely of tinned sheet iron.  Designed with a graceful Queen Anne cyma curved top. Latched, opening to a hook for hanging the pocket watch, and round “rest” to hold it in place. Neatly rolled edges by a skilled tinsmith.

Watch hutches were used to safely hold a pocket watch at night, essentially turning a personal timepiece into a small bedside or mantel clock.I have had a number of watch hutches (always in wood) yet I have not had one in tin.

Excellent condition with dry complex surface. Surprisingly rigid. Including hanger about 6 inches tall x 4 wide x 1 3/16 deep.
